Freddy Harteis bags his mountain lion!

We started this mountain lion hunt in 2012 with Freddy Harteis (The Hollywood Hunter) and it has been quite an experience from day one. Between Freddy’s busy schedule and our spring snows, we were having a tough time getting him the opportunity to harvest his mountain lion. We only had two days remaining and we ran out time and snow!

So Freddy had to fly back in at the end of February of this year to try it again. We had good snow and we hunted hard for a few days with still no luck. We are getting frustrated because we can’t cut a track and Freddy’s schedule is getting busy again! We decided to wait for another snow storm, and once again Freddy will have to fly back in if we get any more snow. Crossing our fingers that we do!

We are watching the weather and it looks like we are going to get a snow storm the weekend of March 23, that should last at least 3 days. So Freddy decides to book a flight and give it one last try before the season ends. Freddy arrived Saturday the 23, hoping it snows so we can start hunting Sunday morning.

I stayed at Freddy’s lodge that night. Sunday morning we woke up at 5:00 a.m. and we had very little snow. With disappointment we went out to look for a track and found that there was a little more snow on a neighboring property that was in a little higher country, so that was more encouraging. We started driving the roads and searching for tracks, and about 2 hours later we cut a track!

I called in my brother-in-law and the rest of my crew, and the hunt was on! We turned the dogs loose and within 30 minutes the dogs had the cat in a tree. We are pumped and excited, and when we get to the tree the cat decides to bail … and off we go again.

About 3 hours later the dogs treed the cat once more. By that time everyone is totally exhausted, and when we get to the tree and start to get set up for the kill, the cat bails out of the tree once again!

By that time we are thinking that we are never going to catch that cat again. Within 15 minutes the dogs treed the mountain lion again for the 3rd time!

We rushed to the tree and set everything up (cameras, etc.) and Freddy was ready for the kill! He took his shot with the Knight Muzzle Loader and the hunt was over! Freddy Harteis (The Hollywood Hunter) finally harvested the mountain lion that he wanted!

This was an Awesome Hunt with an Incredible Guy! Congratulations!!

Freddy (Hollywood hunter) and I were out checking out some country yesterday and we came up on these four bucks! They were more curious than scared!
